ABOUT MS. ALLY

Influenced by the tradition of Jazz Vocalists; Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Dorris Day, and Sarah Vaughn, Singer-Songwriter Allyson Latini creates a new space for songwriting which embodies the charm of the oldies and newness of contemporary music. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and awarded the NYU Steinhardt Scholarship as an ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) member.

A New Jersey native, Allyson was introduced to the arts early on starting piano lessons at 11 years old. At the age of 13 when she started voice lessons, it was clear from then on her path would be music. Throughout her middle school and high school years Allyson was nominated for numerous All-State and Regional choirs.

Allyson studied at Steinhardt New York University where she received her Masters in Music/ Theory Composition-Songwriting, and Montclair State University, where she received her Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Jazz Studies, as well as her Bachelor’s in Marketing, Business Administration. Allyson also studied Background Vocal Techniques with the notable Janice Pendarvis. Her mentors at NYU include profound songwriters; Barry Eastmound, Dana Calitri, Phil Galdston, and Maya Sharp. Her one-on-one mentors include: Holli Ross, Aubrey Johnson, Dylan Pramuk, David Cook, and Mike Lee. Within her undergraduate years, she stayed true to her vocalist roots. Performing in multiple ensembles, from small jazz groups, to symphonic choirs. She also traveled and performed in Austria, Germany, and The Czech Republic with choral group MSU Vocal Accord.

Upon graduating, Allyson created a studio of her own students. She accumulated up to 35 private students who study voice, piano, and songwriting with her. She previously worked at NYU Steinhardt as a Teacher’s Assistant for their intensive Summer Songwriting Workshop. Allyson currently teaches Songwriting/ Music appreciation at Hoboken Charter High School. Allyson has worked with Christian McBride’s Jazz House Kids, Music-Nonprofit “We Are All Music,” Sound on Sound Studios and Jazz ensemble “The Royal Bopsters.”

Within her jazz background, the Great American Songbook became a roadmap for Allyson and her lyric writing. The stories these standards told, in sometimes a haunting, charismatic, intelligent ways, influenced Allyson’s desire to write her own songs. This led her to pursue her Master’s in Songwriting at Steinhardt New York University. Currently she is working on her own artist project. Allyson is also writing and collaborating with many musicians and producers, providing melodies, lyrics, and vocal harmonies. With a love for others' minds, she has found true fulfillment when collaborating with others. Allyson has a huge appreciation for the voice, she continues to study just how important vocals are within her own writing. She is a member of NYU Village Voices under the direction of Lauren Kinhan and Janis Siegel.

She continues to believe fully the most important role of any artist is to keep creating. To create any form of art is the most everlasting form of life. She hopes to inspire her students and peers to believe in their own creativity-to believe that what they create is worth the space it takes in the world.
